Who's Ron Nilson?

Ron and wife, Pamela, moved to Post Falls in 2001 and they can't imagine living anywhere else. He owns Ground Force Manufacturing.

Ron Nilson is enjoying the good life on the Spokane River. With a new home and a successful five-year old business, he's become active and involved in his adopted community of Post Falls. He and wife, Pamela, dine out for relaxation and to enjoy good friends, although Ron's busy schedule makes breakfast, lunch and dinner meetings a part of his regular routine.

The chairman of the North Idaho Manufacturing Consortium and member of the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors almost hesitates to name his favorite place to eat and meet, describing it as the best kept secret in Kootenai County.

Mallards Restaurant in RedLion Templin's Hotel features great food and a wide selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Ron has a favorite for each. "The omelettes are topnotch and their Monte Cristo sandwiches are a rare find elsewhere these days", he says. He also enjoys the barbeque ribs on Chef Terry Semenchuk's menu.

Specialties of the house include peppered chicken picatta, traditional calves liver and onions and Idaho ruby red trout maison. The grilled filet of salmon is topped with Northwest huckleberries and a light wine creme sauce.

"It's a great place to meet people or enjoy a quiet meal in a private dining room," says Ron. "When the weather is nice we enjoy the outdoor dining, too."

Lunch and dinner are also served in the lounge and just like the Cheers theme song, everybody knows your name. Ron promises that, "chances are you'll run into someone you know."

The location of the hotel and restaurant right on the river makes for a scenic backdrop and year ‘round wildlife watching. "You can't beat the view," claims Ron.

The name Mallards was inspired by the wild ducks and Canada geese, which are plentiful. General Manager Lois Wechsler has been with the hotel and restaurant since it opened nearly twenty years ago and is a gracious hostess to all of her guests.

Ron declares that North Idaho's best server, Sam, makes the dining experience even better and suggests you ask for her by name.
