Who's Monte Miller?

Monte arrived in Coeur d'Alene as a boy in 1963 and never left, except for college at the University of Idaho. An architect, he's a partner in Miller Stauffer Architects.

Eating out is a treat for the busy Monte Miller family so they go where they know both parents and kids anticipate a scrumptious meal and always leave happy.

"They're proud of their burgers and they should be," Monte says. "They're the best. A Double D burger, large fries and a huckleberry shake - yum."

Roger's Ice Cream & Burgers has grown into a Coeur d'Alene institution since 1940 despite different owners and a move from downtown. Its sinfully rich ice cream mixed with candy bar pieces, cookie dough, gum balls, huckleberries and more, draws crowds all summer long. People not waiting for waffle cones of Moose Tracks or Caramel Caribou ice cream wait for juicy double cheeseburgers thick with pickles, tomato slices and nose-clearing onion.

Roger's works perfectly for the Miller family after Little League games. The walk-up order window and outdoor picnic table seating require no more personal preparation than washing hands. A slow, steady stream of cars along Sherman Avenue mutes sidewalk noise, so the Millers can boisterously relive baseball games while they eat with no worries about disturbing other diners.

Roger's attracts people of every age and style. Grandparents wait in line with teens in sagging board shorts, sharing their passion for chili fries, the 44-Calibre burger and even the Garden burger.

Manager, Gary Kruk's recommendation:
"Try our grilled cheese on sourdough. Add bacon or pickles. I love the bacon. It's made to order on our grill.”
